Edendale Grove is a relaxing, private, nature-break from the hustle and bustle of the city. It provides not only spiritual respite but also fresh fruits and vegetables to the St. Athanasius Food Bank. This parish garden is a welcome oasis of local, nutritious food. Edendale Grove also provides opportunities for education about urban farming, nutrition and healthy cooking practices.
Walk the Living Labryinth
The Living Labyrinth is a popular local prayer path planted with lettuce, strawberries, tomatoes, herbs, peppers and other fresh food. A labyrinth is used to facilitate, meditation or prayer. Unlike a maze, a labyrinth is designed for ease of navigation, and it is impossible to get lost within one.
Walking a labyrinth involves three stages: purgation (releasing), illumination (receiving), and union (returning ). Purgation occurs as one moves toward the center of the labyrinth—sheding the cares and distractions of life and opens one’s heart and mind. Illumination occurs at the center of the labyrinth—receiving what is there for you through prayer and meditation. Union occurs as one exits the labyrinth—joining God, your Higher Power, or the healing forces at work in the world.
